PGT Industries, founded in 1980, is the nation's leading manufacturer and supplier of residential impact-resistant windows and doors.

In the early 1980s, PGT focused its operations on aluminum vinyl-glazed windows, which were used as porch enclosure systems. By 1987, PGT was manufacturing its first line of glass windows marketed under the name PGT (Progressive Glass Technology). Later, in 1988, the company added tool and die making and injection molding to its manufacturing capabilities, allowing it to keep pace with the company’s tremendous growth while ensuring its high standards of product quality and service.

After the devastation of Hurricane Andrew in 1992, the company aggressively began research and development for a window and door product line that would meet Miami-Dade County code requirements - some of the strictest building codes in the nation. PGT’s efforts to provide consumers with safety and security resulted in the 1996 premiere of the WinGuard® Impact-Resistant Windows and Doors product line.

In January, 2003, PGT acquired Binnings Building Products, Inc., of Salisbury, North Carolina. Binnings, with $20 million in sales and over 200 employees, has manufactured aluminum and vinyl windows and doors and storm windows and doors for the replacement and new construction market since 1958. Their 225,000 square foot facility became PGT North Carolina Operations.

The Binnings acquisition is a vital step in PGT's strategic plan of continued growth.They are a complementary fit with the PGT business and culture, sharing the same long-term vision and commitment to superior products and outstanding customer service.

PGT Industries currently employs approximately 1,350 employees as of December 31, 2008, at its two facilities, which includes the 485,000 square-foot manufacturing facility, glass plant and delivery fleet facilities in Venice, FL. and its 390,000 square-foot production facility in Salisbury, NC. PGT sells through a network of independent distributors. The company's total line of custom windows and doors are now sold throughout the eastern U.S. and a growing international market, which includes the Caribbean, South America and Australia. PGT's product line includes PGT® Aluminum and Vinyl Windows and Doors; WinGuard® Impact-Resistant Windows and Doors; Multi-Story Windows and Doors; and Eze-Breeze® Sliding Panels.
